Meet Will

Wuthathi Artist · Storyteller · Creator

Willhelm "Will" Lauenstein is a Wuthathi artist whose work is shaped by Country, family, culture and connection. Through Dots of Country, his original artwork carries story from a Birds Eye view to beyond the canvas and into the everyday.

HIS STORY

Shaped by Country, family and connection

Will is a proud Wuthathi man from Shelburne Bay, Cape York, born in Cairns, Queensland. His story has been shaped by the places he has lived, the people around him and his connection to Country and culture.

His artwork reflects those experiences through story, movement and connection. From tracks and waterways to meeting places and the relationships between people and Country, each piece carries meaning beyond what you first see.

Through both traditional painting and digital artwork, Will continues to explore his own style while sharing stories in a way that feels authentic to him, his family and where he comes from.

THE ART

Story told through colour, texture and connection

Will's work draws on Country, culture and connection, using colour, pattern and movement to tell stories through his own creative lens. Across original paintings and digital artwork, each piece is created with intention and carries a story of its own.

In his painted works, Will incorporates natural materials including crocodile and kangaroo hide, adding another layer of texture and connection to Country. These elements become part of the artwork itself, bringing together story, material and place in a way that makes each piece uniquely his.
